Grading Rules
1. Excused Absences and Make-ups: if an absence is excused,
a point is set aside until a make-up is complete. Make ups are due within
one week of the date of the absence.
a. Your first two absences of each quarter may be made up outisde of school
by (1) picking up a "make-up slip" from Ms.David, (2) completing
the make-up acitivty, (3) having your make-up slip signed by an adult, and
(4) it turning it back in to me. To earn the point, yuour make-up should
be at least 45 minutes in length.
b. After your first two absences of the quarter have been made up outside
of school, the remainderof your absences must be made up with me at lunchtimeby
jogging 1 mile in the gym.
Remember: an absence is not excused until the teacher sees the pink slip.
2. Unexcused Absence: In the event of an unexcused absence, 2 points will be deducted, and you will not be given an opportunity to make-up the points. DO NOT SKIP MY CLASS!
3. Non-Dress: If you forget your clothes, shoes, or socks, we have clean "loaner" clothes that you can borrow for the day. If you don`t dress down, you will lose 1 point and you will not be allowed to make them up.
4. Tardiness: The first two tardies of the semster will result in a verbal warning. All other tardies will result in a one point deducation. If tardiness becomes a problem, detention will also be assigned. It is important that you get to class on time.
5. Inappropriate behavior or language, inappropriate treatment of others or equipment, lack of effort, negative attitude, etc: Although this is rarely a problem, point deductions can occur. Harassment and/or sexually inappropriate behavior will be reported directly to the principal.
6. Written Work: There will be several quizzes. Students must score a competency level of 80%; otherwise there will be a one point grade deducation. Test retakes will be provided at lunchtime if requested by the student. The written work, although not difficult, is designed to help you learn about yourself, give you a better understanding of basic fitness concepts, and motivate you to make educated fitness, nutrition, and weight control decisions that will positively affect you now and in the future.
7. Medical Excuses: If you are injured or ill, you may be excused from participating in PE. If you need to be excused for a couple of days, a note from your parents stating the problems will be accepted. You must bring me the note THAT day. After three days, a note from your physician will be required (Kennewick School District Policy). "Medically excused" days need to be made up in the same way excused absences are made up.
8. Progress Reports: Itemized progress reports will be sent home via the student every four weeks: mid-quarters, quarter, and semester. Students are asked to return them with their parents` signature to avoid a 1 point deduction.
9. Attendance Policy: When you return to class after being absent, you must show the teacher an admit slip. This tells me if your absence was excused or not. If you come to class without an admit slip, you will be sent to get one. You will then be counted tardy.
